Kyria's Miracle

Our tiny bundle of joy, Kyria Eve Foster, made her entrance into the world on October 4, 2008. She was born at 25 weeks gestation - over 3 1/2 months premature - weighing in at just 1 pound, 13 ounces. Her life was literally in the balance, as she was no bigger than the span of an adult hand.

There are many preemies born into this world, some as early as 23 weeks, who do live, but we were about to find out that Kyria would be faced with something that many preemies either do not survive, or that can rob them of what we would call a "normal" life.

When Kyria was born, she went through so much trauma during a long resuscitation that her brain began to bleed. This was a grade 4 bleed, which is the worst possible, and it spread to both sides of the brain, destroying a large portion of her brain. Many babies who are born with a brain bleed of this degree go into a vegetative state or suffer serious mental and physical complications. The doctors did not know if she would live past 24 hours. But God  did!  He had another plan.

Kyria was life-flighted to Janet Weis Children's Hospital, where she received incredible treatment from the doctors and nurses. God used them in a mighty way! Kyria had to grow for the next couple of months in an Isolette. From the start, we had serious concerns as her head swelled up with fluid due to the parts of her brain that were destroyed. This caused her to go into seizures. There were many other difficulties and complications that we had to face. The circumstances we faced were grim, and we needed a miracle! It was not easy to walk through each day, but The Lord continued to remind us that He is The Healer and He is in control. We took one day at a time, praying over her, quoting Scriptures, and believing and trusting in God for her healing. Mark 9:23 states that "All things are possible to him who believes" .  We appealed to family, friends and churches for prayer support. We were amazed by all the support we received; even people who didn't know us stood in faith with us, believing and praying for Kyria.

God's power was at work as Kyria beat all odds. Her head, which was once over-sized with fluid, began shrinking back to normal size. The seizured ceased! 

When babies are born prematurely, they are often on monitors, while being intravenously fed medication and supplements to function. Despite missing brain, Kyria began to eat and grow.  All of her organs were - and still are! - functioning normally. Kyria came home without any monitors, and within a couple of months she was off all of her medication and taking no extra supplements. 

We know from medical history that when babies have a brain bleed the brain can rewire and repair itself. Because Kyria's bleed was so large, scattered, and on both sides, we were informed that she has almost a 0 percent chance normal development. Despite Kyria coming into the world 15 weeks early and having a large portion of her brain being destroyed, she is growing and developing perfectly. What a grand demonstration of the healing power of God! Stand in faith with us that she will continue in divine health for the rest of her life. God is The miracle worker and to Him be all the glory! 

We are sharing this remarkable testimony not because we want to claim to have a miracle baby,  but because we want to point everyone to a God who is real, and who does amazing things for His people. There is no greater love in this world than the love of Jesus Christ. He knows what suffering is, as He died on a cross for you and me.

We want to encourage others that no matter what challenge, problem, or sickness you face in life, do not give up. Call on Jesus Christ and cast your cares on Him. He is no respecter of persons. He is the answer! His Word, the Holy Bible, is alive and real; His promises are true. Believe!

1 Peter 2:24 states, "Who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness - by whose stripes you were healed."
